Seven Years In: How Four Warehouses Came Together

The network sits in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Yiwu and Zhengzhou — chosen on geography, not internal routing. What each location stands on, and why the order cannot reverse.

Four cities, one reason

You will notice we describe our warehouses by what they are near rather than by what they handle. That is deliberate. A warehouse's usefulness is determined by where it sits relative to where goods come from and where they go — not by an internal org chart.

We were incorporated in 2019 and formally established in 2020. Deep in cross-border cloud warehousing for seven years, with a team of 40+ people.

Shenzhen is the gateway, not the reason

Shenzhen sits on the South China export gateway. For goods leaving China through the southern ports, being close to that gateway is the whole advantage. Everything else is secondary.

This is also the location where most cross-border sellers start, which is why it tends to be the busiest of the four.

Dongguan is where the goods were made

Dongguan borders Shenzhen, in the middle of the manufacturing belt. Most goods arriving at a Dongguan warehouse were produced within a short drive.

That is why deep processing, assembly, rework and QC exist in this location at all — they are the activities that spill out of neighbouring factories. The reason we expanded the processing lines here is proximity to the production base, not because Dongguan is a cheaper place to rent.

Rework is the clearest example of why location decides this. A batch with defects either gets fixed near where it was made, or it gets shipped a long way back and forth, at which point the freight alone makes the repair uneconomic. Distance is what keeps rework an option instead of a calculation.

It also shows up in timing. A factory changing a version or swapping a part can sit inside the same week when the distance is a short drive, and inside the next month when it is not.

Location What it sits on What that enables
Shenzhen South China export gateway Fast clearance for southern exports
Dongguan Manufacturing belt Rework, assembly and QC close to production
Yiwu Small-commodity distribution hub Consolidation of small goods
Zhengzhou Central China, air and rail Rail to Europe, air from central China

Yiwu is density

Yiwu is a small-commodity distribution hub. The value there is not proximity to a port — it is that an enormous number of sellers move similar goods in similar directions, in small quantities.

That density is what makes consolidation practical. It works because enough parcels are going the same way.

Zhengzhou is inland, and that is the feature

Zhengzhou sits in central China and connects to the China-Europe rail network. It is also an air cargo point, so the same location can serve both a rail and an air lane.

For inland manufacturers exporting to Europe, having a rail option without moving to a coastal city is the difference between a workable plan and an expensive one.

Why the order could not be reversed

Each of these locations answers a specific geographic question. Move any of them inland and you lose the specific thing that made it useful.

If this location moved inland What is lost
Shenzhen Proximity to the southern export gateway
Dongguan Access to the manufacturing belt
Yiwu Small-commodity density
Zhengzhou Rail and air connectivity from central China

This is also why we do not describe the four warehouses as dividing up business. They are not four departments with different specialities — they are four points on a map, and which one your goods go through depends on origin, destination and lane availability.

What seven years actually changed

Honest answer: the service scope grew, and the underlying logic did not. 14 value-added services at Youmanman Cloud Warehouse, 100+ international lines across commercial lines, express and our own small-parcel service. The 90-day small-item storage waiver and free system usage came out of what sellers kept asking for.

What did not change is the location logic. A warehouse in the wrong place cannot be fixed by putting more money into it.

FAQ

Q: How many warehouses do you operate? A: Four — Shenzhen, Dongguan, Yiwu and Zhengzhou. Which one your goods pass through depends on origin, destination and lane availability, not on internal routing.

Q: Why is Dongguan relevant if it is next to Shenzhen? A: Because it is in the manufacturing belt. Most goods arriving there were produced within a short drive, which is what makes rework, assembly and QC practical there.

Q: Do I need to choose a warehouse, or is that decided for me? A: It is decided on logistics, not on your preference. Tell your advisor your origin and destination and we will tell you which location makes sense, including the cases where one of ours does not fit.

Q: What does Yiwu actually do differently? A: Density. Small-commodity consolidation works because enough small parcels move in the same direction. That is a function of the location, not of the building.

Q: Can I use Zhengzhou for a small parcel? A: Not the best fit. Youmanman Parcel Forwarding handles personal parcels from abroad with 90 days of free storage and consolidation — Zhengzhou's advantage is rail and air freight from a central China origin.
